SAFA Select U9s v Charlton Athletic Youth Academy

SAFA took two teams up to Sparrows Lane last week to enjoy some
developmental games against Charlton's Youth Academy. This was a great
opportunity for all concerned and enabled players and parents to see the
standard of Academy players, which SAFA aims to achieve through its
Development Centres and in particular, the Monday Advanced Academy. It
takes time and commitment to achieve such levels - SAFA's advanced
curriculum is designed to allow players the opportunity to reach their full
potential.
Jacob plays for Charlton
SAFA boy Jacob Shelton made his debut for Charlton Athletic academy against Watford and did very well in the centre of midfield starring in a 3-0 victory for Charlton.
SAFA v Charlton
During the Academy Experience 2009, Charlton Athletic’s Youth Academy brought some of their players down to play teams representing SAFA at two different age groups. The matches were enjoyed by everyone and players (and parents) were able to see the current standard of Academy players. SAFA players were also able to participate in coaching sessions with Dave Chatwin, Assistant Manager of Charlton Athletic’s Youth Academy. The day was a great success and highlights the excellent link between SAFA and Charlton Athletic Youth Academy. Check out the photos on the Gallery page>>.
Hearts and Smiles
The "Hearts and Smiles" project in partnership with Buckswood School involves S.A.F.A coaches delivering coaching sessions and running a tournament in a number of schools in the rural areas of Swaziland, Southern Africa. The project is now in its fourth year and to date over 1500 Primary school children have benefitted from our coaching. Members of S.A.F.A help to raise money towards the project by taking part in sponsored events.
Children donate old football boots and local clubs offer football kits which are all given to the teams taking part in the "Hearts and Smiles" tournament. Four schools each year benefit from the project which offers young children an opportunity to represent their community in the tournament and gain much needed confidence from what they are taught in the sessions.
The future of the project
S.A.F.A aim to provide a community football programme to the rural schools in Swaziland by employing a local Swazi coach and training him the S.A.F.A way. The community coach will deliver our programme to at least 3 schools per week.
We also hope to provide a drop in soccer centre in the Siteki area of Swaziland which will provide free, fun, structured coaching sessions and games for the young African players.
Advanced Centre Full
The popular Hastings advanced centre on Monday nights is full.
SAFANTASY Football
At SAFA we know that we are good at coaching football, but are we any good as managers? Well, during the coming season we are about to find out. Not only that, you can join in and see if you are better!
We have created our own mini-league called SAFANTASY with Barclays Fantasy Football. When you register
you can also join a score prediction game called 'I Know The Score', so let's see what you're like as a pundit.
Go to the Extra-Time page for more details and the current table.
